Curlew Cottage is in a quiet corner of the historic village of Burghead, lapped on three sides by the waters of the inner Moray Firth. A couple of minutes' walk from the cottage takes you to the busy little working harbour and headland of Burghead, once fortified by the Picts, or to the beach and dunes, fringed by the pines of Roseisle Forest.

Burghead has excellent services, most just round the corner from Curlew Cottage: pubs, Co-op shop, post office, pharmacy, hairdresser, library and direct bus service to Elgin, 8 miles (12 km) away, where most of the major national chains and supermarkets have outlets.
If you are arriving by air, Curlew Cottage is 45 minutes' drive from Inverness Airport, 1hr 45mins from Aberdeen and approximately 4 hr. from either Glasgow or Edinburgh. If by ferry, it is about 3 hr. 45mins from Rosyth and 6 hr from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. If by train, our nearest stations are Elgin or Forres, both 8 miles (12km.) away.
 | Guests love both the long twilight of late summer evenings and the short bracing but often sunny days of winter when the night sky is white with the quiet aurora. Whenever you come, you can revel in the ever-changing hues and moods of our northern sea and sky. Walk the Moray beaches from Lossiemouth to Findhorn and look for the Moray Firth dolphin pods, follow the Moray Forests' trails on foot or by bike, play a round of golf or hike in the Cairngorm National Park. |
For less strenuous days, try the Whisky Trail or the Castle Trail, or enjoy some retail therapy in our unique visitor centres and craft outlets nearby. An hour's drive takes you to Inverness and Loch Ness. Ullapool on the West Coast, the Northern Highlands, or Aberdeen and Braemar are easy day trips. And then come back to Curlew Cottage, your home-from-home where you can dream by the open fire, curl up with a book, enjoy a game or DVD or plan your next day from the masses of up-to-date information and tips right there at your fingertips.
